Not ready to pick a time yet? Fair. Here's why Austin homeowners choose metal.

The reasons

Why metal makes sense in Austin

Your roof is the one thing between your family and Texas weather. Here's what metal does better.

It lasts

Metal roofs are built to last 30 to 50+ years, and some standing seam roofs go past 60. A shingle roof usually lasts 12 to 20 years.1 2

Standing seam hides the screws. Far fewer places to loosen, rust or leak.3 That's why it outlasts screw-down panels.

The Kynar 500 paint finish on the panels we install carries the maker's warranty of 40 years against cracking and peeling and 30 years against chalk and fade on standard colors, for the original purchaser only.4

You also get a 10-year labor warranty from Roof It Pros, in writing. Ask to see the full terms before you sign.

It protects

Class 4 is the top hail rating a roof can earn. To pass, it has to take a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet without cracking or splitting.5 The standing seam panel we usually install is listed to UL 2218 Class 4 for impact resistance.15 Your written quote names the panel.

Straight talk: metal can still dent in a big storm. A dent is rarely a leak. But it can show, and some Texas policies won't pay to fix dents that only affect looks.6 Class 4 is a lab test; ask your insurer how it treats cosmetic dents. We'll walk you through it before you buy, not after. (More in the questions below.)

It saves

Metal reflects heat instead of soaking it up. A reflective roof surface can stay about 50°F cooler than a dark one on a summer afternoon.7 Lighter colors and reflective finishes do the most.

Cool roofs save the most in hot, sunny places like Texas.8 In a government field test, reflective metal roofs cut cooling energy 18 to 26%.9

Then there's insurance. Texas requires insurers to offer a premium credit for impact-rated roofs, including metal panels that pass the Class 4 test.10 It may lower your premium. Each company sets its own amount, so ask your agent. After install we complete the TDI roof-installation form (PC068) for you to send to your insurer.11

So metal lasts longer, holds up better, and can save on cooling and insurance. Now the part most people never do the math on.

Do the math

Your payments end. Your roof keeps going.

A metal roof costs more up front. Then it keeps going long after the payments stop.

6 years of payments on the 72-month option (subject to credit approval; Financing details below). Metal roofs are expected to last 30 to 50+ years.

Spread over an assumed 50-year roof life, that works out to roughly $1,066 a year.

Based on total paid over an assumed roof life of 50 years. Roof lifespans vary; metal roofs are expected to last 30 to 50+ years.*

Examples, not your quote. Your roof's size, pitch and details set your price.

"More up front" is the real question, though. So here's what up front actually looks like.

Real prices

Real prices, before anyone sets foot on your roof

Many roofers won't put a number on a web page. We will. Here's what metal costs in Austin, from our recent signed jobs.13

Standing seam metal roof panels
Exposed fastener Galvalume R-panel metal roof

Standing seam. Hidden screws, clean vertical lines. This is the roof most people picture. Costs more up front. Fewer things to check over the years.

Exposed fastener. Screws go through the panel. Lower cost. The screws and washers need a check over time, so plan on some upkeep.

  • Exposed fastener: about $800 per square, installed.13
  • Standing seam: about $1,800 per square at our list price (the 29-square example), installed.
  • Example: a 29-square standing seam roof at our list price, about $53,300.12

Either way, the payments end decades before the roof is expected to.

Want the number for your roof? That takes one visit.

And if you'd rather wait a year? Here's what that costs.

Timing

What waiting costs

No countdown here. Just three things that are true whether you book with us or not.

1. Your roof is aging either way

Every Austin summer bakes a shingle roof a little more. Waiting doesn't pause the clock. It just moves you closer to the day you have to decide in a hurry.

2. Repairs add up

A patch this spring. A leak next fall. Each one feels small. Together they're real money, and at the end you still need a roof.

3. The next storm doesn't wait

By one tally of NOAA storm data, Texas logged over 11,000 reports of 1-inch-or-larger hail from 2016 to 2025, more than any other state.14 A roof you plan to replace anyway is better replaced before the hail than after it.

Still, a roof meant to last decades deserves a few hard questions first. Here are the ones we hear most.

Good questions

The questions everyone asks (and a spouse will ask too)

Is a metal roof loud when it rains?

It depends on the install. Solid decking, underlayment and attic insulation change the sound a lot. Some homeowners hear a soft patter. Some hear almost nothing. We'll tell you what to expect on your home, but we won't promise a specific sound.

Will it dent in hail?

It can. Metal is tough, but big hail can leave dents. Here's what matters: the Class 4 rating is about keeping water out, not about looks.5 A dented panel usually still does its job. One catch: some Texas insurance policies won't pay for dents that only affect appearance.6 Class 4 is a lab test; ask your insurer how it treats cosmetic dents. Read your policy, or bring it to the visit and we'll show you where the cosmetic-damage wording usually sits. Your agent can confirm what it means for you.

Is it worth it if we might move?

Honest answer: it depends on how long you stay. If you're moving next spring, tell us. We'll say so.

Will it look right on my house?

Yes, if we pick the right profile and color. Standing seam comes in dozens of colors, from charcoal to white to earth tones. It fits modern homes, ranch homes and farmhouses. We bring samples to your door so you can hold them against your brick and trim. If you have an HOA, bring the rules. We've worked with plenty.

Do you repair metal roofs?

Yes. Leaks, loose fasteners, flashing and storm damage. See metal roof repair in Austin.

Will you be here in 15 years?

Fair question for a roof meant to last decades. The panel maker's paint warranty is in writing, for the original purchaser. You also get a 10-year labor warranty from Roof It Pros, in writing. Ask to see the full warranty terms before you sign.

How much does metal roof installation cost in Austin?

Exposed fastener: about $800 per square installed, from recent signed jobs. Standing seam: about $1,800 per square at our list price on our 29-square example. A square is 100 square feet. Steeper or complex roofs run higher. See the full prices and financing examples in the Real prices section above. Not an offer; your written quote is the price.
